One removable, backlit ceiling design — engineered once, repeated across 2,608 prefab bathroom pods on two continents.
CitizenM builds its hotels from prefabricated modules, with partner Saniskill producing the compact bathroom pods. STRETCH engineered and supplied the illuminated ceiling for each pod: a backlit, light-transmitting STRETCH membrane that turns the whole ceiling of the small space into a soft, even light source.
Each ceiling is built from two illuminated stretch-ceiling panels — and every panel is removable. The same element that carries the light doubles as an inspection hatch, so the services above the pod stay reachable without a single extra opening breaking the clean surface.
In total 2,608 shower pods were delivered across Europe and America — from Paris Opera and Copenhagen Rådhuspladsen to New York, Chicago, Miami Brickell, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Nuenen. Built off-site, every unit arrives with the same repeatable, hotel-grade finish.
